Awareness - Typhoid

Monsoon brings lot of fun, greenery and cool climate. However, it also invites lot of health disorders as well. Dealing with such illnesses associated with rainy season is not very difficult. You should be aware of certain quick remedies if you cope with such illnesses due to rainy season.
The disease is caused by the bacterium Salmonella typhi and is highly infectious. The bacteria are present in human faeces, and a healthy person may fall prey to the disease by consuming contaminated food and water (this is known as the fecal-oral route). Some patients carry the infection in their gall bladder even after the disease is cured. The pathogen is the excreted and flies then act as carriers/ vectors, contaminating food and water.
Common Symptoms of typhoid fever can include:
* A High Temparure which can reach upto 39-40 C (103-104 F)
Ø   Headache
Ø   Muscle aches
Ø   Stomach pain
Ø   Feeling sick
Ø   Loss of appetite
Ø    A rash made up of small pink spots
Symptoms of Typhoid
 Ø   Constipation or diarrhoea (adults tend to get constipation and children tend to get diarrhoea)

Prevention / Treatment:

Ø   If you live in areas prone to contagious diseases, getting yourself vaccinated against typhoid will keep you safe
Ø   Once the diagnosis is confirmed by a blood, urine or faeces examination, the doctor should prescribe antibiotics.
Ø   The patient should be isolated and will need to be nursed.
Ø   The patient's fluid intake should be high to prevent dehydration caused diarrhoea.
Ø   Patients might suffer a relapse about two weeks after an apparent recovery.
